About the Opportunity

Our client is growing, and they are seeking a highly skilled, energetic, reliable, and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team.

Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for supervising groups of specialized engineers in the energy sector.
  • Maintaining a project timeline and completing tasks within the allocated time frames.
  • Periodic reporting to, and consultation with, section managers
  • Liaise with other discipline leads, project managers, contractors, and clients to facilitate a smooth flow of information for use in preparing preliminary and detailed designs and provide design clarification solutions throughout the project.
  • Undertake, supervise, and provide reports and calculations (test/hydraulic/equipment sizing/stress/FMEA, etc.).
  • Highly experienced in technical specifications (services/components/equipment, etc.).
  • Demonstrated capability to manage a knowledge-based work unit.
  • Extensive experience in the development of strategies and policies for the planning of programs with significant knowledge and experience in the principles of program/project evaluation, monitoring, measurement & verification, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Highly developed analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills, with a history of successfully demonstrating collaboration, teamwork, innovation, organization, coordination, and planning skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills as evidenced by past successful performance, with demonstrated` supervisory competencies including the ability to coach, hold accountable, mentor, engage, and motivate staff.
  • Demonstrated ability in preparing technical reports and deliverables to successful conclusion.
  • Good knowledge of CANDU nuclear power plant design and operation as well as CANDU reactor components (specifically primary heat transport, feeder, calandria).
  • Understanding of engineering change control process.
  • Experience in compliance with regulatory standards and customer requirements.
  • Experience in piping and equipment design.
  • In-depth knowledge of CSA N285.0, N286.7, and N289 as well as ASME Section III Subsections NB, NC, ND, NF, ASME B31.1, B31.3, and ASME Section VIII.
  • Good understanding and experience with the Engineering Change Control (ECC) process.
  • Prior experience that supports ASME Section III Appendix XXIII Qualification for Design Specification and Overpressure Protection Report is considered an asset.

Qualifications

  • Proper technical background and education, typically acquired through the successful completion of a University Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Prior experience in the Oil and Gas or Nuclear Power Generation Industries.
  • Site access security clearance for authorized unescorted entry to Canadian Power Generating Station, or eligibility to acquire one such clearance.
  • Compliant with all the requirements set by the Occupational Health & Safety Act and by cogent regulatory bodies.
  • Professional Engineers (P. Eng.), registered in Ontario or elsewhere, are given precedence.
